We do not know how many motorhomes we view before deciding which one it should be. We do know that we spend countless evenings browsing the internet and tapping into almost every source of information we can find.
Our search is not limited to digital listings. At various dealerships, we admire the entire range, open cupboards, sit on benches and lie on beds. In motorhomes, that is.

It cannot be down to the preparation, we think, when we decide in the summer of 2020 that it is time to make a final choice. We can list the advantages and disadvantages of almost every brand and model. The layouts also hold few secrets for us.
What is the difference between a French bed and an island bed? We can now explain it in minute detail. An A-class, a coachbuilt or an over-cab? We know it all.
After due consideration, we make our decision in August. It is to be a Knaus Sun Ti 650mf. This motorhome is built on a Renault chassis but features a Nissan engine.

In the autumn of 2020, we depart with our new acquisition for Southern Europe to spend the winter in Spain and Portugal. In the spring, we travel back to the Netherlands to put the motorhome into storage. After that, we step onto NOMAS, our sailing boat, and set course for the Baltic Sea. At least, that is the plan.
We cannot foresee at that moment that everything will turn out differently. In Spain, we become stranded at a motorhome aire as the coronavirus pandemic begins an unprecedented resurgence. Checks become stricter; borders close. We decide to drive back to the Netherlands immediately.
In January 2021, we sell the motorhome. With a heavy heart, indeed, and move into an apartment in Friesland. There we wait for better times. Unfortunately, these do not arrive for the time being due to serious health problems. Travelling and sailing are out of the question for now, but if the treatments prove successful, we will certainly head out again.
Valencia and the Baltic Sea
After a year dominated by uncertainty, hospital visits and consultations with doctors, we can make plans again in the early spring of 2022. Following a short city break to Valencia, one of our favourite Spanish cities, we begin preparations for a sailing voyage along the Danish, German and Swedish coasts.
While on the road in the spring of 2022, it appears we must adjust our ambitions. After a year of medical concerns, a sailing trip to Scandinavia is too demanding. We experience this when we sail from Lauwersoog across the Wadden Sea to the open sea. Rough waves make the journey unattractive. And that is putting it very mildly.
During that first day of sailing in tidal waters, we decide to go back and spend our holiday – we still have a few months ahead of us – in the Netherlands and the surrounding area. Perhaps we go to the Wadden Islands, or possibly we set course for Zeeland. We shall see. First, we have to deal with a minor issue with the anchor windlass.
A motorhome once again
After sailing on the IJsselmeer for several weeks, we decide to make the move south. From Medemblik, we sail via Amsterdam and IJmuiden to Hellevoetsluis. That becomes our base for exploring the waters of South Holland and Zeeland.
While at anchor near Tiengemeten, we decide to sell our NOMAS. Over the past months, it has become clear that we can no longer do what we want with the boat, namely making long sailing voyages.
Our urge to search for the unknown remains. Therefore, we make the transition from the boat to a motorhome. With the Knaus, we experienced the feeling of freedom. We want that again. So, we search for a new motorhome. And we find one.
