The Pont Sainte-Catherine, perched at the edge of Salurnay-sur-Guye in France, lies within walking distance of the campsite La Clochette. However it feels like a world apart. Three rounded arches of unequal span, the central one widest and tallest, are pressed into grey limestone that absorbs sunlight without a glint. Beneath the arches the river Gande murmurs past. A wrought-iron cross stands atop the parapet, straight and unmarred by rust. The exact date of construction remains unknown but it predates the seventeenth century. Its enduring presence speaks volumes.
