Lliber is an atmospheric village that is an excellent base for walks through the impressive nature. Recently, we made a hike of over five kilometres, and we will definitely be back. There is still a lot to discover here.
Lliber in Vall de Pop is located in the Spanish region of Valencia, more than fifteen minutes drive from Benissa or Calpe and half an hour from Denia on the Costa Blanca.
Practical information
Lliber is easily accessible by car, and there is ample parking on the edge of the village. Take into account the sometimes extreme heat in the summer months.
- By car
- From the AP-7 motorway, take the Benissa exit and follow the signs towards Vall de Pop (CV-745). You drive through a beautiful road through the mountains into the village.
- Parking
- On the edge of the village, near the central square (halfway through the main road there is a small sign that refers to a parking lot), you will find ample free parking. From here, all the routes below start.
- Best time to travel
- Spring (February for the almond blossom) and autumn are ideal for hikers. In the summer months, the temperatures here rise sharply. That makes the conditions less suitable for a good walk.
Our first meeting with Lliber was a real surprise. Several times we had driven through the narrow main street of the village, but never before had we gotten out of the car to explore the village.
From the parking lot on the edge of the village, we took a walk in the area and were touched by the impressive nature. This time we opted for a relatively simple walk, but we will definitely be back.
The same goes for the village. At the end of our walk, we walked through the narrow streets past the authentic houses. In the square near the church, we sat down on a terrace for an unadulterated cortado (espresso with a cloud of milk).

- Paseo de los Riuraus
- Distance: 5 km | Level: easy
- Description: this route leads along the historic riuraus, the iconic stone barns with arches where raisins used to be dried. You walk on flat paths parallel to the Gorgos River.
- Highlight: the authentic architecture and the flowering almond trees in early spring.
- Climbing the Peña de la Tienda
- Distance: 8 km | Level: medium to heavy
- Description: a sporty tour that winds from the village up to the rugged mountain peaks. The paths are rocky, but the reward is great.
- Highlight: a spectacular 360-degree view over the entire valley and the glittering Mediterranean Sea on the horizon.
- Camino de Castellet (Lliber to Jalón)
- Distance: 6 km | Level: medium
- Description: a cosy walk that connects the two villages. You walk through the heart of the wine region, surrounded by grapevines and centuries-old dry stone walls.
- Highlight: the combination of culture and nature; end your walk at the famous Jalón antique market on Saturday morning.
