Yes, a Camp-let North
Crates packed with provisions fill the garage in Pego, and the route north is already programmed into the dashboard. Waiting in a Dutch showroom is the trailer tent that marks our next chapter. After our motorhome years, we return to the essentials, armed with the lessons learned from our previous journeys.
The form changes; the urge remains. Those who follow us know we have tried different rhythms to traverse Europe. First by boat, then by motorhome. Both experiences offered freedom but also brought their own limitations. For us, travel is not static; as soon as the format begins to restrict us, we look for a new framework.
After months of comparing options and crunching numbers, the decision is made: we are changing course. The next phase of our travel story revolves around the Camp-let North. This is a Danish design that we are picking up in the Netherlands in just a few days.
The calculation: why not a caravan
The question we receive most frequently over the last few weeks is, ‘Why not choose a caravan?’ The answer is purely practical. A caravan is heavy and requires a towing vehicle with serious power. Our current car is simply not built for that. Purchasing a new car just to pull a caravan feels like an unnecessary detour.
A trailer tent is a different story. It is compact, lightweight, and follows our car without us constantly feeling extra weight on the towbar. However, weight is not the only factor. We look for comfort. The days of sleeping on a thin air bed are long behind us. The Camp-let offers permanent beds with proper mattresses. We travel to discover, not to test our endurance when it comes to a good night’s sleep.
Danish minimalism in Pego
Our list of requirements is short but strict. The Camp-let North comes out on top every time. It is agile on the road and requires no extra concentration in narrow streets. Once on-site, it is quick to set up, a detail you only truly appreciate after a full day of driving through the Pyrenees.
Furthermore, there is a crucial practical advantage: it fits inside our own garage in Pego. No hassle with external storage or monthly rental costs. The trailer simply sits at our house, ready to depart whenever the sun calls us.
An expedition to the north
In Spain, the Camp-let is simply unavailable. There are no dealers and no service points. Anyone living here who wants to drive this specific piece of Danish craftsmanship must head to the Netherlands.
This immediately turns the purchase into our first expedition. We drive to the supplier, inspect the trailer in person for the very first time, and, if everything is right, drive it back south ourselves.
Folding out the tent
By now, we know the videos and reviews almost by heart. Yet a purchase like this remains exciting until the moment you stand inside it yourself. The moment you fold out the tent for the first time and make the beds.
We seek a new way of moving. Less tied to large campsites with their fixed pitches for heavy motorhomes, but more flexible and closer to the ground. Frankrijk, Portugal en de Alpen are on the route planning. The Camp-let is the tool with which we are going to rediscover those regions.
On the road
The engine runs. We drive northwards, across the Pyrenees, towards our appointment with the supplier. The paperwork lies on the passenger seat.
